Do you have an imposter walking around in your shoes and stunting the growth of your company?

Fear of confrontation often masquerades as kindness, fairness and compassion among presidents, business owners and CEOs. There are specific situations in which this fear shows up quite visibly and prominently: •When you need to discipline an employee who has transgressed •When you need to terminate an employee •When you need to discipline an employee who is a family member •When you need to tell your employees that you will not be able to deliver to them what you promised •When you need to request your vendors to accept delayed payments But, why does this happen in the first place? I can think of many reasons and I am sure you all can add to it. Here are a few reasons why leaders often suffer from this fear of confrontation: •They do not want to face the truth and as head person they can get away with it •Due to the fear of having to take a stand which can later prove to be a wrong choice •Due to the fear of being seen as a bad person •A feeling of guilt - they might have the same flaws as the person they are disciplining •Lack of moral and ego strength •Fear of the unknown •Due to running the business based on emotions and gut feel rather than facts and numbers •Lack of self-trust / self-esteem / self-confidence •Fear of being wrong or making mistakes Can you do anything about it if you have it? Yes, you definitely can! Here is a step-by-step plan: 1.Become aware of it by observing yourself in various situations 2.Accept that you have this fear 3.Learn to recognize it when it shows up 4.If you are in a situation where you need to confront some brutal facts or people you are fearful of, write down your feeling about the situation, the facts of the matter, the results you want from the interaction, how the other person will see and interpret the situation and how you would like to feel when you have resolved the issue 5.Maintain focus on what is in the best interests of the organization and the individual you are dealing with 6.Practice, practice and practice "We have nothing to fear but fear itself."
